Who are you?
Kirk Roberts Design is the office of Kirk Roberts (me).
It is founded with the humble goal of making people’s visual communications more attractive and effective. How I do this is outlined on the services page.
(Note: if you’re interested in something that looks more like a resume, please view my LinkedIn profile.)
Although all of my experiences inform my work, the foundation is my formal design education at the prestigious (and grueling) Portfolio Center in Atlanta. After graduating I lived and worked in San Francisco for six years, honing my identity and print design skills while developing a Flash hobby into a full-time job working on the web.
Through employment and freelancing I’ve had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects ranging from nationally distributed products to large-scale all-Flash websites to announcements and ’zines that get produced at a copy center. I love the challenge of shaping a message for a specific audience and fitting it all into a given time/expense budget.
Growing up in Connecticut on the New York commuter line I played a lot of sports and did a lot of drawing. I went on to Davidson College in North Carolina, playing football and earning a BA in Art History while continuing to draw and paint. Just after college I took my first graphic design class and loved the mixture of aesthetics and strategy. It was art with a clearly defined purpose, and I had found a path.
After a decade of experience working in various design and publication environments I opened my own practice in Northeast Tennessee.
Somehow, throughout it all I have maintained a completely irrational attachment to the perennially awful Detroit Lions. No one, including me, is sure why.
